The historical development of human rights, nationally and internationally

How frameworks of human rights impact upon English criminal law currently

How frameworks of human rights impact upon English criminal justice currently

Different definitions of social justice

The historical development of the values and principles of social justice

How concepts of social justice impact upon English criminal law currently

How concepts of social justice impact upon English criminal justice currently

Bringing human rights and social justice together to improve English criminal law and criminal justice
Module Overview:
This module aims to raise student awareness of concepts, values and definitions relating to both human rights and social justice. After looking at competing definitions of human rights and social justice, the module considers how both frameworks influence English criminal law and English criminal justice, and how both could be used side-by-side to use criminal law and criminal justice as tools for building a better and fairer society.
