Aims

1) To explore the relationship between Forensic psychology and Criminal Justice by examining the history of legal Psychology and the application of psychology to legal issues and procedures and how we work with those that have committed crime 2) To look critically at the role of the Forensic Psychology in the modern Criminal Justice System by drawing on research from a variety of areas of psychological study. 3) To examine the legal assumptions about human nature that underlie legal procedures and practices from a psychological perspective. 4) To explore key concepts in psychological research, and consider the contribution that research has made to the practice of law and how the criminal justice system works with groups and individuals

Learning Outcomes

Complete the Future Focus level 4 assessment, reflecting on personal development, their strengths and weaknesses and their values.

Understand psychological explanations of criminality
3.
Identify interactions between Forensic Psych and CJ, and evaluate the contribution psychology has made to the understanding of crime, discussing critical issues in the relationship between psychology and crime

Outline Syllabus:Key concepts in the psychology of crime and the criminal History of forensic and criminal psychology Psychological explanations of criminality Forensic psychology's role in criminal justice practice Psychologists and psychology in the courtroom The impact of psychology on the criminal law How psychology impacts direct work with offenders
Module Overview:
The aim of this module is to identify the interactions between Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice, including an overview of the historical developments of forensic and legal psychology.
Additional Information:Students will be able to identify the interactions between Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice, including an overview of the historical developments of forensic and legal psychology. Critical issues in psychology and crime will be discussed, as will psychological explanations of criminality Students will demonstrate understanding of how psychology guides how the criminal justice system deals with those that commit crime and reflect upon the following aspects of personal development: strengths and weaknesses, motivations and values, ability to work with others
