Aims

This module aims to develop understanding of probation practitionership by considering concepts of difference, ethics and values which can impact upon legitimate and fair use of power and authority, and the importance of reflective practice. 

Furthermore, the module will introduce links between learning and practice and will develop accurate professional and academic writing skills. 

Learning Outcomes

1.
Use key skills required for adult learning, including academic writing, application of theory and research to practice, and referencing.
2.
Apply a structured model to reflect on the principles and values underpinning probation practice, including the fair and legitimate use of power and authority. 
3.
Identify appropriate criteria relating to quality and ethical standards to reflect on decision making in probation practice.
4.
Explain the knowledge and understanding required to work effectively with individuals who have complex needs or who display challenging behaviours, recognising rights and diversity.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
This module will be supported by several seminars and workshops which will be delivered at regular points throughout the module, as well as weekly drop-in sessions to support learning. Content will include: academic skill development – reflective models – values & beliefs – power and authority – professional relationships & boundaries – diversity & difference – Human Rights – integrating knowledge, practice & theory. 
Module Overview:
The module aims to develop learner understanding of probation practitionership, its intersection with theory, and to develop writing and academic skills required to study at degree level.  

The module will provide the foundation for both professional and academic practice enabling learners to progress to the Level 5 and Level 6 PQiP modules.
