Aims

This module will provide preparation for entry onto LLB Law or combined honours degrees. This module will introduce the concept of Law as a subject and the role of Law in society. It will also introduce the principles which underpin the English Legal System, the mechanics of the legal process, justice in a wider sense, and the personnel who administer it.

Outline Syllabus:Sources of Law Legal Systems Alternative Dispute Resolution and Trial Systems The Structure and Role of The Courts Personnel involved in the English legal system The Separation of Powers Parliamentary Sovereignty Features of a Democracy Human Rights Current Legal Issues
Module Overview:
This module will provide preparation for entry onto LLB Law or combined honours degrees. This module will introduce the concept of Law as a subject and the role of Law in society. It will also introduce the principles which underpin the English Legal System, the mechanics of the legal process, justice in a wider sense, and the personnel who administer it.
Additional Information:This module will include a trip to Liverpool Crown Court wherever possible.  This module will give students introductory training in legal research techniques. Louise Burton - Module Leader.
