Aims
1. To facilitate the development of research and data skills as a foundation for students’ current and future studies.
2. To prepare students to apply scientific approaches to solve problems.
3. To prepare students to think ethically about conducting research.
Learning Outcomes

Summarise scientific research on a selected topical issue within Psychology & Health
2.
Explain methodological and ethical considerations in relation to addressing a research question

Present data in graphical and tabular formats
4.
Discuss conclusions drawn from research data
5.
Present a basic study in a lab report format
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The syllabus will build on the general academic skills taught in Skills & Perspectives 1.
Lectures will introduce students to different methods used within Psychology & Health research, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches. These methods will be examined in more detail, and in some cases actively experienced, in the workshops. Students will undertake practical work in the workshops.
Students wills learn to enter and display data in software packages such as Excel and SPSS.
Tutorials in smaller groups will focus on personal development planning and general academic skills such as writing and critical thinking.
