Aims

This module provides students with a grounding in the background law needed to fully understand the legal landscape in which business law operates. This module has been designed to support both those with, and those without, a legal background. The assessments have been designed specifically to enable non-lawyer/legal background students to gain a firm grasp of legal writing, including syllogistic reasoning. Furthermore, this will ensure that lawyers/legal background students entering the course are refreshed in academic rigour, and stretched/challenged, in preparation to work as masters (FHEQ 7) level.

Critically appraise the legislation and regulatory practices in the business law field

Analyse and provide solutions to common problems arising in business law

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:By completing this module, students are expected to cover the indicative content as follows: 1) Background law: a. Common law jurisdiction b. Civil law jurisdiction c. The English legal system d. The law of contract and law of tort e. Professional negligence f. The law of property 2) Business Law: a. Business Law concepts b. Business Regulatory regime c. The free movement of goods
