Aims

1. Provide students with the opportunity to examine contemporary issues arising from the EU Foreign, Security & Defence Policy.
2. Provide students with the opportunity to understand and critically analyse the complexities arising from the EU Foreign, Security & Defence Policy.
3. Provide students with the opportunity to consider contemporary global problems through the prism of EU law and policy.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Demonstrate conceptual understanding and evidence critical evaluation, current research and advanced scholarship of the EU's foreign, security & defence policy.
2.
Demonstrate critical skills of independent research and analysis demonstrated through legal writing and communication skills.
3.
Make use for a range of both primary and secondary sources to investigate the application of the EU foreign, security & defence policy.

Outline Syllabus:
History and driving factors of European integration
The foreign policy of the EU
The relationship of the EU with the United States of America and with Russia
The role of the EU in various regions of the world (North Africa and Middle East,
Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, East Asia, Latin America)
The defence policy of the EU
The identity and actorness of the EU as a global player
