Aims

Students are required to develop a basic understanding of all portions of the module, but only to develop in depth an understanding of one out of the three main study areas, i.e.: Antarctica and CITES; Atmospheric and Air Pollution; Nuclear Pollution and Hazardous Waste.

Learning Outcomes

Identify and prioritise source materials needed for a proper understanding of the subject
2.
Demonstrate a critical awareness of the factors which shape International Environmental Law
3.
Incorporate an analytical and critical appreciation of practices within the International Environmental Law field
4.
Develop critical responses to International Environmental Law, and the ability to apply them critically in a variety of contexts

Outline Syllabus:The nature of international law The sources of international law The distinction between “hard” and “soft” law Air pollution Atmospheric pollution Nuclear pollution and hazardous waste CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) Antarctica
