Aims

This module provides students with a grounding in the background law needed to fully understand the legal landscape in which employment law operates. This module has been designed to support both those with, and those without, a legal background. The assessments have been designed specifically to enable non-lawyer/legal background students to gain a firm grasp of legal writing, including syllogistic reasoning. Furthermore, this will ensure that lawyers/legal background students entering the course are refreshed in academic rigour, and stretched/challenged, in preparation to work as masters (FHEQ 7) level.

Learning Outcomes

Examine, in detail, the English legal system

Develop the ability to identify and prioritise source materials needed for a proper understanding of the subject

Identify a critical awareness of the factors which shape employment law in context
4.
Identify an analytical and critical appreciation of practices within the field of employment law in context
5.
Demonstrate the ability to apply employment law in context it in a variety of contexts

The law of property 2) Employment Law a. Historical perspectives on employment law b. The purpose of employment law c. European Union Regulation Statutory controls d. The influence of the common law - contract and tort Means of enforcing employment law e. Introduction to people management f. Definitions and the nature of people management g. Models and critiques of human resource management
Additional Information:There are no professional body requirements at this stage, however developments will be monitored and where appropriate, incorporated into module content.
