Aims
This module will enable students to critically investigate the legal issues concerning classification of personal data and the main pieces of legislation affecting data protection in the digital age.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Review the classification of personal data, and the fundamental principles affecting data protection
2.
Critically compare and contrast sensitive and non-sensitive data within an international media context
3.
Analyse the principle data protection laws, and critically evaluate responsibility for their enforcement
4.
Scrutinize the rights and obligations associated with the collection and storage of personal information in media law
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:By completing this module, students are expected to cover the indicative content as follows:
a. Issues concerning classification of personal data
b. The principles affecting data protection
c. The different between sensitive and non-sensitive data
d. The main pieces of legislations affecting data protection e.g. Freedom of Information Act 2000; Data Protection Act 2018
e. Responsibility for the enforcement of the Data Protection Act 2018
f. Collection and storage of personal information and associated rights and obligations
