Aims
1. Develop a comprehension of the theory, practice and historical development of the War/Peace Cycle.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the strategic significance of the War/Peace cycle in international relations over the course of the last 200 years.
3. Build in-depth knowledge of a particular problem in the War/Peace cycle during the last 200 years.

Module Overview:
In this module students will examine the interplay between two of the most importantdriving forces in humankind's recent history: the pursuit of war and the desire forpeace. This module will be presented within an international history framework, andwill focus on some of the key strategic, humanitarian and military histories of theperiod from the early nineteenth century to the present day. It will be comprised ofthree thematic and chronological sections, each of which will contain lectures andseminars covering elements of history and historiography, as well as internationalrelations theory, strategic studies and the war/peace cycle theory. This last elementwill provide the central theoretical framework for the module.
