Aims

Learning Outcomes

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Introduction to complex rehabilitation in a multi-disciplinary context.
Assignment preparation, study skills update, and writing at level 7.
Medical management in rehabilitation.
The role and impact of the nurse in rehabilitation.
Physical management of rehabilitation.
Cognitive rehabilitation.
Challenging behaviour in the rehabilitation setting.
Mental health in complex rehabilitation.
Ethical principles in rehabilitation.
The psychological impact of complex trauma on the individual and their family: MDT approaches to management.
Prolonged disorders of consciousness.
Communication disorders.
Swallowing disorders.
Nutrition.
Vocational rehabilitation.
Additional Information:This collaborative module will be delivered predominantly by the multi-disciplinary team from the Cheshire and Merseyside Rehabilitation Network. The module is designed for a broad range of health care professionals who work within rehabilitation; for example, nurses, occupational therapists. physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, physicians, dieticians, and doctors. There will be some practical interactive taught sessions from physiotherapist's and dieticians.

This is a single module CPD which will be delivered full time over one semester.
Admission Criteria:
1) BA/BSc (Hons) in relevant field (2.2 or above) or evidence of potential to study at Masters Level
2) Registration as a health professional (nursing or allied health)
3) Organisational support.
Final Award: CPD Complex Rehabilitation in a Multi-Disciplinary Context
Student Support
Students will be encouraged to access University-wide support services including the Education and Academic Quality Services, Learning Resources, Careers and Welfare services. Student support will be on going through the provision of a comprehensive Induction Programme, and support during teaching and learning activity by teaching staff. Teaching staff and the link tutor will be accessible by telephone and e-mail to offer academic, pastoral, and welfare advice as necessary. There will be a dedicated on-line resource via Canvas.
This programme will be assessed and run in line with the University Academic Framework. The assignment requires students to produce a professional portfolio (maximum 5500 words). This will include sections exploring the philosophy of complex rehabilitation, reflection, evidence based practice, national standards and frameworks and advancing practice. Students will be offered the opportunity to produce a formative reflection. Feedback will be provided prior to the summative assessment.
There is no compulsory attendance requirement.

Mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation of the programme

External examiner reports will be presented in the CME, and at the Board of Studies. The reports will be posted on Canvas – the virtual learning environment.
Quality and standards will be ensured through the use of student feedback (through module evaluation), and student representation at the Boards of Study. Each cohort will nominate student representatives who will be invited to the BOS and will receive the CME. The programme team will review all of the relevant processes each year and generate an action plan to address issues.
This CPD is not linked to another programme, it will have an external examiner and will produce an CME.
