Aims
To enable students to design and complete a large independent legal research project.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Critically evaluate appropriate theories, methodologies and techniques associated with legal enquiry.
2.
Critically analyse the nature of the legal framework impacting their chosen area of legal study.
3.
Critically evaluate arguments, assumptions and abstract concepts and so formulate judgments and identify a range of solutions to a given problem.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Students will be introduced to researching at Masters level and will learn different legal research methodologies e.g. doctrinal, socio-legal and comparative. They will learn research ethics and develop a research plan in order to construct a dissertation proposal. They will develop this plan to write a dissertation.
Module Overview:
The core dissertation module runs across the year and is a supervised piece of independent study.

Additional Information:The proposal report worth 10% of the credits within the module must be passed before the final dissertation is submitted. Students submit their research proposal and must have tutor approval before proceeding to work on their dissertation.
