Aims

To prepare students to be able to identify and act in accordance with the core duties of professional conduct, professional ethics and the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules To understand the relevant law and issues of compliance with respect to money laundering. To have knowledge of the financial services regulation and how it applies to solicitors firms.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate an understanding of the way the SRA Principles apply to the handling of client money and an understanding of the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules

Understand, recognise and apply relevant financial services regulation and identify and understand the relevant money laundering legislation and be able to deal with issues in a practical context
3.
Identify, understand and apply relevant principles and outcomes with reference to the SRA Code 2011
4.
comply with the detailed requirements relating to litigation set out in the LPC Outcomes 2011 (published by the Solicitors Regulation Authority) and/or such other document as may from time to time amend or replace those provisions

Outline Syllabus:Solicitors’ Accounts Rules Record and interpret receipt into and payment from office and client accounts. Transfers between office and client account Transfer between 2 client accounts Preparation of completion statements Professional conduct and client care Money laundering and proceeds of crime Financial services
Additional Information:This is one of the core practice areas on the LPC which fails within Stage 1, which students must pass to attain the LPC.
