Aims

To develop awareness of the legal and ethical framework surrounding the activities of a professional engineer. To develop awareness of the Emotional Competence Framework for a professional engineer. To develop specific set of personal and social competency skills appropriate for a professional engineer, such as adaptability, creativity diversification, leveraging diversity, political awareness, leadership and team capabilities.

Demonstrate high level understanding of the professional, ethical and moral responsibilities of a professional engineer

Use adaptability and innovation for managing one’s inner states, impulses and resources, and comprehensive understanding of commitment and initiative to facilitate reaching goals

Leverage diversity, political awareness and the skills surrounding empathy to cultivate opportunities in an organisation

Comprehensively incorporate communication, conflict management, leadership, and collaborative skills to induce desirable responses in others for achieving the common goal

Demonstrate high level understanding of organisational structure and culture, and self evaluate personal leadership level to progress towards "Level 5 Leadership".

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Professional ethics, codes of conduct and moral responsibility; Corporate Social Responsibility. Developments and trends in company organisations and management; need for the emotional competence framework. Personal competence skills: Adaptability, creativity and innovation to manage one’s internal states and resources for progress; commitment and initiative to guide or facilitate reaching goals. Social competence skills: Leveraging diversity and developing political awareness for cultivating opportunities. Communication, conflict management, leadership, collaboration and cooperation, and team capabilities in pursuing collective goals. Leadership styles at Level 5 Leadership to guide oneself through their leadership journey.

You will also gain an awareness of the Emotional Competence Framework for a professional engineer. This will help you to develop a specific set of personal and social competency skills appropriate for a professional engineer, such as adaptability, creativity diversification, leveraging diversity, political awareness, leadership and team capabilities.
