Aims

To prepare students for practice in property law in the context of domestic and commercial transactions and freehold and leasehold property. To examine in detail the sequential series of steps in a property transaction. To develop the skills of fact analysis; identifying legal issues ;client goals; implementing transactional procedures; problem solving; advising; writing and drafting within a property context.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Demonstrate an appreciation of the nature of a property transaction and identify and perform critical steps in a property transaction
2.
Demonstrate an awareness of conduct issues that may arise in a property transaction including conflict of interests when acting for more than one party; requirements of lenders and money laundering issues
3.
Demonstrate an understanding of the tax aspects of a property transaction including Stamp Duty Land Tax
4.
Comply with the detailed requirements relating to litigation set out in the LPC Outcomes 2011 (published by the Solicitors Regulation Authority) and/or such other document as may from time to time amend or replace those provisions

Additional Information:This is one of the core practice areas on the LPC which falls within Stage 1 which students must pass to attain their LPC. Examination is in two parts, Part 1 duration is 2 .5 hours and Part 2 duration is 1.5 hours
