Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
What is research? Understanding research ethics planning and preparing research proposals Exploring research methods Using research to inform change.
Module Overview:
This module will enable you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge you have been developing over the time studying on the programme. It will provide you with the ability to identify a relevant and interesting topic of research, develop and test research questions, and draw conclusions relevant to academia, policy and practice.
Additional Information:
This module will enable the Student to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have been developing over the programme and will provide them with the ability to identity a relevant and interesting topic of research, develop and test research questions, and draw conclusions relevant to academia, policy and practice. The Research Skills will provide a framework for the Student to develop their independent research project if they progress to the Dissertation. The module will explore what a dissertation looks like (how to structure the research project). It will explain why the literature review is important and the ways in which this will inform the research questions. It will give guidance on how to choose and deploy a suitable methodology and how to present and discuss the findings. The Module will also enable the Student to draw robust conclusions, which are useful to the academic field, to policy-makers, and to practitioners; how to deal with ethical dilemmas in research; and how to manage the research data in ways, which protect your respondents and yourself while ensuring your data is valid and reliable. After completing the module, the student should be able to better critically, evaluate a range of regulatory processes together with professional values which inform practice in their identified field and situate their own work within it through analysis of appropriate primary material. In addition, they should be able to hone a particular methodology or approach towards their chosen material to generate research and an informed critical position.
