Aims
To provide clinical knowledge and skills that are relevant to the needs of healthcare professionals working with medicines in advanced paediatric practice and to facilitate the professional development of the student, including fostering development of an enquiring, open-minded attitude, tempered with scientific discipline for paediatric medicine, which encourages lifelong learning.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Assess and manage the particular safety issues and pharmacological care relating to paediatric therapy for some advanced paediatric specific conditions
2.
Provide other health care specialists or other professionals who may not be familiar with advanced paediatrics issues with sound and clear information regarding advanced paediatric pharmaceutical care
3.
Demonstrate an understanding of medicines use in some advanced paediatric conditions and develop a critically reflective approach to practice applied to real patient cases

• Estimation of hepatic function and dose adjustments • Paediatric Clinical Trials • Paediatric post-operative care • Diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis • Advanced paediatric respiratory conditions: Cystic Fibrosis • Advanced Paediatric Gastroenterology: Enteral and parenteral feeding • Introduction to Palliative care • Common cardiac defects and their management • Care of the Neonate • Treatment of common toxicities in children • Advanced paediatric infections: meningitis and sepsis, antimicrobial stewardship and multiresistant infections • Advanced dermatology
