Aims

The aim of the module is to provide an overview of and explore contemporary issues in workplace health and wellbeing. It explores the current theoretical approaches, models and interventions relating to organisational health and wellbeing. To equip senior HR professionals with the required knowledge and skills to develop, promote and sustain a healthy working environment and contribute to business objectives.

Learning Outcomes

Critically evaluate workplace health and wellbeing approaches and strategies for the prioritisation and targeting of workplace health and wellbeing activities.

Demonstrate critical awareness of how wellbeing can be enhanced by making changes to company policies, procedures and approaches to work life.

Explore critical perspectives and leadership on organisational health and wellbeing in the workplace.

Critically evaluate the business benefits of actively promoting health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The theoretical framework for workplace health and wellbeing programmes. Economic and legislative drivers. Current evidence related to cost v business benefit implications of health promotion and workplace health and wellbeing interventions. The organisational factors and individual needs that impact on employee health and wellbeing. Stress management health and safety risk assessment and management. Individual and workplace health needs assessment. The workplace as a setting for health promotion. The workplace and the wider community. Leadership of workplace health and wellbeing programmes. Cultivating change through appreciative inquiry.
Module Overview:
A specialist HR pathway module, that introduces current issues in health and wellbeing in the work place. It introduces learners to the influence of the work environment on health and wellbeing, guiding learners through the important topic areas underpinning the concept of the healthy organisation. Specifically, it discusses the psychological, social and organisational aspects of the dynamic relationship between work and health.
