Aims

1. To develop a critical understanding of the foundations of Modern English Land Law, in terms of statute law, common law and equitable principles, and reported case law, and to encourage students towards an insightful analysis of and ability to critically comment upon a significant number of key components of Modern English Land Law. 2. To develop the key transferable skills of identifying and understanding relevant legal sources, consolidating knowledge through synthesising these sources, logical analysis through applying this knowledge to both problem and essay questions in Modern English Land Law and forming criticism in relation to the principles informing this subject. 3. To develop a critical understanding and critical appreciation of the relationship between certain areas of Modern English Land Law and government policy, including areas where the need for reform has been identified and/or proposals for reform have been made. 4. To develop and enhance written and oral communication skills generally.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Demonstrate a critical understanding in order to locate, identify and understand the basic sources, principles and rules of Modern English Land Law.
2.
Demonstrate a critical understanding and appreciation of the policy tensions that exist in Modern English Land Law.
3.
Demonstrate a critical understanding and an ability to apply gained legal knowledge to complex problems in Modern English Land Law, to critically analyse, reflect upon and evaluate this application and to draw logical reasoned conclusions that are supported by argument and legal authority.
4.
Demonstrate an ability to use appropriate Land Law terminology and to demonstrate and ability to rank arguments regarding Land Law in the light of statute, common law and equitable sources, principles and rules.
5.
Demonstrate independent learning by taking responsibility for the preparation and planning for an unseen exam paper.
