Aims
After completing the module the student should be able to demonstrate a critical understanding of a range of research methods and sources of evidence to develop a research proposal within the parameters of legal and ethical protocols.

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Overview of research and debate in social work in relation to the nature and role of evaluation and research methods.
Review of a range of methodologies and research methods and case studies of research related to social work, including practitioner research.
The problems and dilemmas of data collection and data analysis.
Ethical issues and social work values in research: moral and social theory;
Designing a research proposal for a Master's level dissertation module: empirical and theoretical issues.

Module Overview:
After completing this module you will be able to demonstrate critical understanding of a range of research methods and sources of evidence, to develop a research proposal within the parameters of legal and ethical protocols.
After completing this module you will be able to demonstrate critical understanding of a range of research methods and sources of evidence, to develop a research proposal within the parameters of legal and ethical protocols.
Additional Information:This module aims to develop and assess the knowledge of methodologies and research methods, and understanding and transferable skills in the independent investigation, research, communication and evaluation of issues related to effective and ethical professional practice and policy. The module will provide feedback for students in relation to the development of the research proposal and their ethics application and approval, thus preparing them for the dissertation module.
