Aims

This module aims to explore the concept of senior professional practice through a personal, professional and organisational lens. Learners will be introduced to and draw upon theoretical perspectives to illustrate the complexity of leadership within different sectors. As a result, learners will locate and challenge both personal and professional constructs of a senior people professional and their own identity as such. Learners will consider personal values and  innovative practice through the lens of sustainability. 

Learning Outcomes

Critically evaluate and reflect upon personal identity and evidence and its relationship to current context.

Critically appraise personal strengths, areas for development and generate a plan incorporating SMART targets for both intrapersonal & interpersonal development.
3.
Critically reflect upon effective leadership development as a senior professional developing strategies and approaches to support and enhance innovative practice to effectively align the building of individual and organisational needs.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Theory to practice; knowledge and understanding of the complex dynamics of leadership; explore their strengths and weaknesses as a leader; articulate leadership approach; identify effective and ineffective leadership and leadership development, 360 ESCi. 

Incorporation of the six principles of responsible management education (PRME)
  • Purpose - developing learners to be future generators of sustainable practices
  • Values - consideration of personal and organisational values in relation to local and global social responsibility
  • Method - appropriate resource, material and methods to promote responsible leadership
  • Research - utilising examples of best practice and impact relating to sustainability
  • Partnership - networking and engaging with organisations to encourage knowledge sharing around the challenge of social and environmental responsibilities and explore solutions
  • Dialogue - encouraging and facilitating debate on critical issues relating to sustainability and the challenge to individual leaders. 
Module Overview:
This module is an integrated and holistic part of the first year of the programme and seeks to facilitate personal and professional growth, acting as a catalyst for reflection on learning from other first year modules and the wider aspects of the programme.
