Aims

To expand participants’ knowledge and understanding of research methods in educational contexts. To enable participants to develop a research proposal to investigate an identified area of interest. To develop implement and complete an in depth research-based investigation of a defined area that has relevance to the professional education context.

Learning Outcomes

In relation to the chosen area of investigation critically review theoretical perspectives, policy and research evidence from the literature
2.
Consider and manage issues of research ethics and power in accordance with university and educational research ethical guidelines
3.
Demonstrate a critical awareness and thorough understanding of the strengths and limitations of a range of methodologies and research methods
4.
Apply skills of critical evaluation, analysis and synthesis to data to formulate a creative response to the specified research questions and consider the implications of the research for professional practice

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Individually negotiated, but participants are encouraged to engage with appropriate research events to be selected from E-Learning support, action learning sets or faculty research events.
Module Overview:
This course is part of the MA AEP programmes. It provides an opportunity to carry out a piece of in-depth research of relevance to the educational context, largely independently but with regular individual support from an assigned supervisor. The module aims to:
  • expand your knowledge and understanding of research methods in educational contexts
  • enable you to develop a research proposal to investigate an identified area of interest
  • develop, implement and complete an in depth research-based investigation of a defined area that has relevance to the professional education context
