Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
An appropriate project area will be agreed with the module leader and an external placement provider. An external supervisor and internal (LJMU academic) supervisor will be assigned to oversee the project.
Module Overview:
This module will provide you with the opportunity to conduct an independent, in-depth study of an agreed topic of research, carried out in an appropriate manner at an external placement provider.
Additional Information:
All projects will require significant periods of laboratory work at an external placement provider. The working hours are Monday-Friday between 9 and 5pm for 12 weeks (a total of 420 hours).

Students will be assigned  external supervisors from the placement provider and an internal supervisor from LJMU. There will be three 'checkpoint' meetings (30 minutes in duration) during the course of the 12 week placement. These will be at the start, midway through and at the end of the placement period (the exact timings will be agreed between the external and internal supervisors).

Appropriate references for each particular project will be provided for the student. The duration of the oral presentation is 30 minutes, including questioning by the external and internal supervisors and members of the placement providers research team.
