Aims
This module aims to develop and consolidate the fundamental clinical skills required to implement the principles of medicines optimisation within the practice base setting and facilitate students' engagement with self-directed learning.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Critique available models of patient consultations and implement relevant aspects to engage patients in effective discussions about their medicines
2.
Assess the needs of individual patients relating to medicines-related information and tailor the information provided to meet these needs
3.
Formulate care plans for individual patients to help achieve the therapeutic outcomes required as part of the medicines optimisation process
4.
Choose (and implement) appropriate actions to facilitate the safe and effective use of medicines in individual patients
5.
Appraise own competence as a pharmacy practitioner and engage with self-directed learning to address areas for development identified

Module Overview:
This module aims to develop the basic clinical skills required to assess the appropriateness and effectiveness of drug therapy in individual patients within the practice base setting and to facilitate your engagement with self-directed learning.
This module aims to develop the basic clinical skills required to assess the appropriateness and effectiveness of drug therapy in individual patients within the practice base setting and to facilitate your engagement with self-directed learning.
Additional Information:The majority of this module involves work-based training under the guidance of a Practice-based tutor (PBT), following a prescribed schedule. The student and PBT are also supported by the Clinical Liaison Tutor team.
The module also requires students to satisfy a competency requirement, based on the following two parts:
: Pass a set of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) - students have a maximum of three attempts and the OSCEs must be passed within 12 months of achieving the module pass mark
: Complete a practice-based portfolio - students have a maximum of three attempts and a satisfactory portfolio must be submitted within 12 months of achieving the module pass mark
