Aims

Within a transnational perspective this module aims to develop a student's critical appreciation and understanding of organised crime with a particular emphasis on: Human Trafficking/Smuggling of Migrants, Modern slavery, Drugs, Counterfeiting, Arms, Financial Crime, Intelligence, Policing Borders and Corruption

Learning Outcomes

Differentiate from a transnational perspective between organised crime groups and analyse their impact within identified activities
2.
Compare and contrast how different policing agencies respond to organised crime groups within a transnational environment
3.
Evaluate the effectiveness of protocols that allow policing agencies to operate together within identified transnational fields

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:An indicative range of topics includes: An examination of organised crime as it impacts in the areas of Human Trafficking/Smuggling of Migrants, modern slavery, Drugs, Counterfeiting, Arms, Financial Crime, Intelligence, Policing Borders and Corruption Identifying the origin and historical development of internal and transnational policing co-operation The strengths and weaknesses of the arrangements that are in place to combat organised crime Human Rights Policing Agencies Cooperation International Legal Instruments Future of Policing

This module explores emerging debates relating to the impact of organised crime on an international and transnational basis and how policing strategies have and are developing in this field. It aims to develop your critical appreciation and understanding of organised crime with a particular emphasis on: Human Trafficking/Smuggling of Migrants, Modern slavery, Drugs, Counterfeiting, Arms, Financial Crime, Intelligence, Policing Borders and Corruption.
