Aims

1. To understand the ways in which criminological research can be undertaken across a range of different employment contexts. 2. To develop an enhanced employability profile, supported through an evidence-based skill-set. 3. To provide students with the opportunity to communicate their research to a diverse audience through different methods of delivery.

Learning Outcomes

Design and undertake an original research project within a work place, demonstrating systematic understanding and critical awareness of research methods, methodology and data analysis, and ethics.
2.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of the links between research, theory, policy and practice across the fields of criminology and social policy.
3.
Communicate the findings of a research project accurately and effectively with recourse to a range of diverse stakeholders.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The course includes material on research design; placement learning; writing up and disseminating results; ethics in research and placement learning.
Module Overview:
During this module you will understand the ways in which criminological research can be undertaken across a range of different employment contexts. You will develop an enhanced employability profile, supported through an evidence-based skill-set. The module will provide you with the opportunity to communicate your research to a diverse audience through different methods of delivery.
Additional Information:This module is designed with a view to providing students with the opportunity to demonstrate their critical research skills in an applied context. Students will design and undertake a research project within either: (a) a place of existing employment; or (b) a purposefully sourced and secured placement. They will be supported through direct supervision from a suitable academic within the department, and will be assessed via a report submission and a presentation.
