Aims
This module aims to advance clinical knowledge of therapeutics and to provide students with the skills to apply this expertise to the appropriate management of a range of chronic and acute conditions commonly seen in primary and interface care
Learning Outcomes
1.
Choose, or make recommendations on, the most appropriate treatment for chronic conditions by applying clinical knowledge to the critical review of their medication regimes
2.
Choose, or make recommendations on, the most appropriate treatment for acute conditions by applying clinical knowledge to the critical review of their medication regimes
3.
Manage or support the optimal management of medicines for groups of patients through effective use of formularies and guidelines
4.
Critically assess the appropriateness of medicines relating to different conditions
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:• Using formularies to inform treatment choices
• Unlicensed drugs
• Disease recognitions and clinical decision making
• Critical evaluation and levels of evidence
• National and local guidance for example including NICE guidance
We will cover a number of conditions which may include:
• Cardiology
• Respiratory
• Endocrinology
• Psychiatry and neurology
• Gastrology
• Rheumatology and musculoskeletal conditions
• Skin conditions
• Blood conditions
• Kidney and liver disease
• Infections and antimicrobial stewardship
• Minor ailments
