Aims
The module aims to prepare students for the dissertation by introducing key epistemological and methodological issues that impact upon research into crime, security, community safety and criminal justice. While exploring the politics and practice of research in these areas the module will introduce research theories and methods

Recognise and evaluate the relative strengths and weaknesses of various theoretical perspectives on social research
2.
Organise and critically review literature in preparation for research.
3.
Differentiate between quantitative and qualitative research methods showing the strengths and weaknesses of each whether used individually or in combination

Support and present findings drawn from quantitative or qualitative data

Additional Information:This module aims to give students a comprehensive introduction to both the theory and practice of research on crime, community safety, security and the criminal justice system. The assignments for this module are designed to be as useful and practical as possible for students planning and undertaking research at the Masters level for the first time.
