Aims
To enable the student to conduct independent scientific research in an appropriate manner under the guidance of an academic tutor. The student has the opportunity to make a major contribution in a chosen subject area through a supervised programme of individual study. The findings will be presented in the form of a written report.

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:This is a self-directed dissertation module with supervisory one-to-one tutorial guidance. It provides an opportunity for students to independently develop and demonstrate scientific methods in a research context. The project topic is related to current staff research interests in an area appropriate to the student's programme of study. Appropriate titles will be determined by discussion between the module leader, individual supervisors and individual students. Projects may take a variety of forms ranging from a laboratory or field-based investigation. Topic choices will be subject to the approval of the module leader.
