Aims

1. Further develop key screenwriting skills based on theoretical analysis of TV series and craft texts. 2. Further expand workshopping and feedback insights on peers' work. 3. To write a 45 min TV pilot episode script and identify potential markets. 4. Further develop relevant research skills. 5. Work collaboratively in writers’ room environment

Learning Outcomes

1.
Produce an original screenplay for television that shows an awareness of relevant screenwriting techniques specific to the medium, in relation to recognized industry models and standards.
2.
Incorporate a critical ethical dimension to their screenwriting practice, working proactively with others to formulate solutions.
3.
Identify, evaluate and maintain capabilities and qualities to support effective communication within an environment similar to that of a professional writer’s room.
4.
Develop critical responses to existing theoretical discourses, methodologies and practices within TV drama.
5.
Critically evaluate the current TV industry and develop a strategy to target potential markets.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:1. Further develop advanced screening techniques in relation to the Pilot episode. 2. Research methods relevant to script development. 3. Peer critique workshops. Offer and receive formative feedback on work in a way that shows sensitivity towards equality and diversity within a writers’ room environment. 4. Write TV Pilot episode script considering ethical issues surrounding the subject matter. 5. Analysis and discussion of set TV Series from decolonized backgrounds. 6. Research current TV industry and identify potential markets for ideas.
Module Overview:
During this module, you will further develop key screenwriting skills based on theoretical analysis of TV series and craft texts. You will further expand workshopping and feedback insights on peers' work, and write a 45 min TV pilot episode script and identify potential markets. You will further develop relevant research skills and work collaboratively in writers’ room environment.
