Aims

The module aims to provide learners with a detailed understanding of how financial management theories, concepts and techniques are used to support transformational business strategy and operations. The module will provide learners with a grounding in the financial tools used for decision-making and data analysis and consider how these can be used to meet complex organisational challenges. Learners will use critical analysis to consider the limitations of financial tools and will evaluate the role of values, ethics and sustainability in creating appropriate financial reporting structures.

Critically appraise the use of multi-source data and analytics in support of management decision making and consider the role of values, ethics and sustainability in guiding financial strategies.

Critically evaluate financial statements and data to appraise and manage organisational risk.

Critically apply knowledge of financial management to support organisational governance and strategic decision making.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Indicative content includes;
  • Sustainable practices within financial reporting
  • Strategic risk frameworks & analysis
  • Sourcing responsible investment finance
  • Ethical data analysis and security strategies
  • Financial governance, accountability & responsibility
  • Balanced Scorecard - unlocking value in transformational change.
Module Overview:
The module aims to provide learners with a detailed understanding of how financial management theories, concepts and techniques are used to support transformational business strategy and operations. It will provide learners with a grounding in the financial tools used for decision-making and data analysis and consider how these can be used to meet complex organisational challenges.

Learners will use critical analysis to consider the limitations of financial tools and will evaluate the role of values, ethics and sustainability in creating appropriate financial reporting structures. In the module, learners will critically reflect on their own experience as well as that of their peers to enhance their personal understanding of financial practice.

On completion of this module, students will have developed into more successful, financially literate senior business practitioners and will be able to apply their learning to their current role.
Additional Information:
For learners who are also part of the Senior Leadership Apprenticeship, the following standards are covered within the module; 

(S10) Oversee development and monitoring of financial strategies and setting of organisational budgets based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and challenge financial assumptions underpinning strategies. (S11) Uses financial data to allocate resources. (S12) Oversee procurement, supply chain management and contracts. (K7) Competitive strategies and entrepreneurialism, approaches to effective decision making, and the use of big data and insight to implement and manage change. (K9) Financial governance and legal requirements, and procurement strategies. (S5) Lead and respond in a crisis situation using risk management techniques. (K17) Crisis and risk management strategies. (K8) Financial strategies, for example scenarios, modelling and identifying trends, application of economic theory to decision-making, and how to evaluate financial and non- financial information such as the implications of sustainable approaches
