Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
The Major Project module reflects the summation of the Masters programme of study. Students will bring together all the skills that they have acquired on the programme to materialise an initial proposal through exhibition or equivalent, by developing a significant body of work that is supported by critical reflection and evaluation, in order to explore the boundaries of Art and Science. The Major Project module provides an opportunity for innovation, inspiration and critical creativity and encourages students to produce transdisciplinary work that may have a real world benefit to society. Students will have the opportunity to produce a substantial body of work that is closely linked with their personal career aspirations. The kind of work expected should demonstrate a high level of conceptual thought. This should be reflected in the motivations behind the work, which in turn should be based in scholarly research and current topics of interest. Outcomes should demonstrate an understanding of the historical and theoretical connections between art and science as cultures and practices, and how these ideas translate into contemporary experiences. Collaboration is essential throughout this module and we are interested in the creative possibilities and speculative futures at the intersection of Art and Science.

Additional Information:
This is the module where students bring together all the skills they have acquired on the programme demonstrated by public outcome or equivalent. Students will be required to make a working proposal (including an abstract and details about how the project will be disseminated) about which they will receive feedback and support in its realisation from academic staff. Students will be assessed by a public-facing outcome from a significant body of work, including evidence of reflection and supporting work. Assessment will be supported by a formal presentation (viva). Students will be encouraged to participate in a masters degree show.
