Aims

1. To provide a concentrated opportunity to originate, research and develop a documentary project or dissertation, the practical delivery of which will form the culmination of the student's degree experience in the following semester 2. To successfully develop and deliver a professional pitch of this original idea

Learning Outcomes

Generate a documentary idea, with a view to developing as a practical project on a media platform of choice

Understand all aspects of production research, including generating production paperwork

Understand how to conduct a successful pitch of their final idea

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The emphasis of this module is developing research skills to produce original and in-depth material for a chosen subject area. Students will identify a documentary idea they wish to develop as their final masters documentary. Once agreed with tutors, students will research and develop this documentary idea to produce a comprehensive written treatment and deliver a professional pitch of their research proposal to tutor staff and industry practitioners. This module is designed to equip students with the research skills required in order to deliver their final masters project.
Module Overview:
In this module you're introduced to media law and ethics for documentary makers and learn about documentary funding, distribution and marketing.
Additional Information:Working to a brief negotiated with the module staff, students will conduct detailed production research in order to produce a comprehensive treatment of their final project. Students will be required to submit risk assessments and other relevant pre-production paperwork. The research will culminate in the successful preparation and delivery of a professional pitch of their idea This is a core module
