Aims
This module aims to provide students with a detailed knowledge of how to write and produce work, which is researched using appropriate methods. To accomplish these aims we will explore:
1. Research methods and ethics in critical and creative practice
2. Writing style, compiling bibliographies, writing proposals
3. Researching the interview and interview techniques
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:This module is designed as an introduction to research methods in film studies and filmmaking. Students will cover a range of methodological, critical and practice based issues likely to arise in any research project that students might undertake at postgraduate level (including practice-based project). Students will be introduced to research methods for critical and creative practice. They will learn to effectively use the library and other scholarly resources, including web based research aids. Students will be introduced to project development skills and interview skills. Students will develop their critical and creative practice skills at postgraduate level. Opening seminars consist of sessions on best use of resources for scholarship, presentational skills involved in written work, how best to organise your studies as a masters student. The module will then explore the nature of creative and critical research methods in Film Studies and provide an introduction to some of the technical skills needed to tackle creative projects (digital competencies in basic camera, sound and editing operations).

Additional Information:This module provides a framework for students to develop a critical awareness of
film studies and filmmaking providing the analytical, scholarly and practical skills to produce a research project. Students will use and explore critical and creative practice tools to investigate their object of study. Students will attend a one-to-one tutorial during the module to tease out their research project.
