Aims

The aims of this module are to: 1. Encourage students to develop their artistic potential, sense of interpretation and individual style. 2. Increase students’ ability to learn and retain complex choreography and to develop and enhance their performance skills in preparation for professional employment. 3. Provide students with the tools to develop their artistic potential and individual style.

Learning Outcomes

Synthesise technical and artistic skills in jazz and tap dance to a proficient level.
2.
Evidence the ability to interpret and reconstitute musical theatre choreography in a simulated professional environment.
3.
Produce professional levels of musicality and performance in multiple dance styles.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Ballet will consolidate and refine the technical work completed in Level 5. Use of balance, alignment, spatial direction and control will increase in complexity. In Jazz, students will experience combinations that challenge them in terms of rhythm and technical demands. Understanding of the connection with a character, objective or emotion, will be paramount. Classes will focus on students as both individual artists and ensemble members. Tap will adopt a greater focus on ability to pick up choreography and employ improvisation-al skills in a structured and supportive environment. Repertoire will include traditional and contemporary musical theatre material as well as an exploration of other tap styles and advanced techniques.
Additional Information:This module equips students with the skills to confidently enter the professional musical theatre industry with a broad and thorough understanding of multiple dance styles. Assessment is via live, studio based presentations
