Aims
The aims of this module are to:
1. Provide opportunity to enhance/lift the technical and artistic skills in Jazz, Tap and Commercial dance to a professional level suitable for Musical Theatre.
2. Emphasise the importance of developing an individual presentational style within the accepted parameters for the techniques.
3. Further improve the students’ ability to pick up and retain complex unseen choreography to enhance their performance skills in preparation for professional employment.
Learning Outcomes

Produce work that is in terms of technique and artistry commensurate with a professional level.

Create new and perform both practiced and previously unseen material with individuality within the parameters of the style and choreographers' requirements.

Exhibit professional levels of musicality, artistic response, and performance skills within a range of professional dance scenarios.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Ballet continues to provide underpinning training of core strength, flexibility, precision of movement, timing, and lyricism. Exercises will develop speed, execution, and intricacy. Use of balance, alignment, spatial direction, and control will increase in complexity.
In Jazz, students will experience combinations that increase in complexity in terms of rhythm and technical demands. Understanding of the connection with a character, objective or emotion, will be paramount. Classes will focus on students as both individual artists and ensemble members.
Tap will place a greater focus on improvisational skills in a structured and supportive environment. Repertoire will include traditional and contemporary musical theatre material as well as an exploration of other tap styles and advanced techniques.
Commercial dance will revise and refine the styles studied in Level 5. Complex time signatures and detailed choreography will be utilized to challenge students as they explore and prepare themselves for the professional industry.
Additional Information:This module equips students with the skills to confidently enter the professional musical theatre industry with a broad and thorough understanding of multiple dance styles.
Assessment is via live, studio-based presentations.
