Aims

The aim of this module is to consider the wide range of forms of poetic writing for live performance and allow students to devise and implement a personal approach.

Learning Outcomes

Synthesise poetic writing and live performance.
2.
Critically discriminate between genres of spoken word and formulate a personal approach to its creation and presentation.
3.
Appraise the significance of spoken word traditions and genres in their social and critical context.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The module will consider forms of spoken word such as rap, hip-hop, storytelling, theatre, and jazz, rock, blues, and folk music and examine the techniques and features of such work (rhyme, repetition, improvisation, and word play). Students will be encouraged to consider collaborations with musicians, digital artists and film makers.
