Aims
1. Use best practice research methodologies;
2. Undertake research with due regard to the ethics of the activity;
3. Conduct contemporary discourse and debate with your peers;
4. Produce a written and illustrated dissertation with an indicative word count of 10,500 to 12,000 words; or
5. Produce a visual dissertation with an indicative word count of 5,000 to 6,000 words plus a minimum of 50 information slides; or
6. Produce a piece of digital visual communication as their dissertation in the form of their choosing and as negotiated with staff.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Demonstrate an understanding of research as strategic to discovery, exploratory thinking, learning and communicating.
2.
Be able to apply written, verbal and visual communication skills to express opinion and thought and to communicate research findings
3.
Demonstrate critical analysis and evaluation of information and data through constructing theoretical arguments.
4.
Demonstrate and apply research skills in a scholarly and professional manner to produce a substantial and informative dissertation.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
You will negotiate with staff to identify that the topic or issue is substantial, relevant to the degree being studied and that it will offer significant potential for your future career path and development.
You will be required to consider and make a calculated choice of research methodologies to adopt, construct a research strategy, identify research resources and conduct the research.
During the research process you will investigate and interrogate key contemporary arguments related to your chosen topic or issue.
