Aims
The module aims to provide students with the opportunity to develop and reflect on their theoretical knowledge and applied practice skills by engaging in a work-related learning project. The students will be provided with an opportunity to lead their own learning while drawing on links between theoretical principles and their application in a professional environment.
Specifically, the module aims:
To critically explore how sport science is being used within the football industry to enhance player development and performance.
To develop an awareness of the craft skills and knowledge required to successfully provide sport science support within a football organisation.
To critically appraise the importance of reflection to applied practice.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Critically evaluate the important craft skills, applied knowledge and evidence base required to work in the football industry.
2.
Critically reflect on issues relating to professional practice, accounting for individual differences such as environment and culture.
3.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of the applied knowledge in their placement area.

Outline Syllabus:
Employability, Self-Evaluation and Career Readiness; Introduction to the module and assessment overview; The importance of work-related learning; Reflective Practice; Professional Practice in the workplace; Career Planning, Careers Zone 24/7, CVs (plus guest speaker); Health and Safety; Risk Assessment; professional codes of practice. Subject specific training; S&C/Physiology, Nutrition, Performance Analysis, Psychology, Biomechanics). BASES Competency Profile. Understanding Environments and Culture.
