Aims

The module will enable students to critically examine national and international perspectives and approaches to early year’s policy, pedagogy and practice in relation to current issues and debates.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Students will explore a range of contemporary issues and global agendas and via participation in the module may suggest further issues to be examined. This will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

Political, economic, social cultural and technological contexts of children’s lives
Global issues and impacts on children and their families implications for education
Comparative national and international pedagogical approaches to the early years
Early years education and care systems, policy and practice
Global agendas for children including UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals e.g. on education and early childhood development
Participation and agency of children and global conventions for rights including UNCRC
Comparative early childhood education and care
Education, health and social welfare policies
Module Overview:
This module enables you to critically examine national and international perspectives and approaches to early year's policy, pedagogy and practice in relation to current issues and debates. It provides opportunities for you to research and critique a range of contemporary global issues and debates relating to the education, health and welfare of children and their families across the world today.
