Aims

To refine students' knowledge and understanding of key scientific concepts, scientific enquiry skills and pedagogy associated with teaching the subject across the primary age range. To develop skills of critical analysis of pedagogical issues relating to primary science.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Evaluate the professional knowledge and understanding, pedagogy and subject content, required for effective science teaching across the primary age and ability range.
2.
Critically analyse the role of education outside the classroom in teaching and learning primary science across the primary age and ability range.

Outline Syllabus:Scientific enquiry - embedding in practice Topics from the National Curriculum Planning progressive units of work Meeting children's needs in science Formative and summative assessment in science Identifying opportunities for learning in out-of-school contexts Maintaining subject integrity in cross-curricular learning
Module Overview:
This module will refine your knowledge and understanding of key scientific concepts and skills associated with teaching the subject across the primary age range. You will develop skills of analysis of teaching issues relating to primary science.
Additional Information:This module extends students' subject knowledge and pedagogical repertoire for the teaching of science across the primary age phases and ability range.
