Outline Syllabus:Understanding the critical and academic study of cultural texts
Key themes and genres in the representation of teachers, students and educational settings in literature, film and the media including:
The teacher as hero
The demonization of teachers
The vilification of students
The school story
The campus novel/ film
The representation of staff-student relationships
Gender, sexuality and ethnicity in representations of the
Depictions of education in children’s literature
Fictional, documentary and journalistic texts about education
