To provide students with a knowledge and understanding of therapeutic practice with children and their carers in the UK

Critically analyse what reflective practitioners offer therapeutically, in a variety of contexts, appropriate to the needs of children, their carers, organisations and society.

Critically discuss therapeutic theory and practice for working within early childhood

Outline Syllabus:
Phenomenology, experience and presence
Humanistic and psychodynamic theories of self
Inter-subjectivity and attachment theory
Therapeutic alliance
Psychological contact
Empathy and attunement
Therapeutic process
Ethical frameworks and anti-oppressive practice
Play, arts, creative approaches to therapeutic practice.
Module Overview:
This module aims to provide you with a knowledge and understanding of therapeutic practice with children and their carers in the UK. You will develop the ability to critically analyse what reflective practitioners offer therapeutically, in a variety of contexts, appropriate to the needs of children, their carers, organisations and society. We will also discuss therapeutic theory and practice for working within early childhood.
Additional Information:
The module builds on the level 5 option module, Exploring health literacies within early childhood studies 5204ECS, however this option module is not a pre requisite for choosing this module.

Opportunities for group and individual tutorials are embedded in this module.
