The module aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to evaluate the impact of gender and ethnicity on educational processes and outcomes.

Outline Syllabus:History of women and education including key influences
Understanding gender theory
Gender as a social construction – including challenges to binary thinking
Gendered educational experiences and outcomes – curriculum, options, attainment
Gender and education today – key debates, e.g. boys and literacy, girls and science
Distinctions between ‘race’ and ethnicity
Educational outcomes for different ethnic groups
Institutional racism in the education system?
The importance of Intersectionality (gender, ethnicity, social class) in analysing educational processes and outcomes
