Module Overview:
This module allows you to research a topic of your choice, which relates to your programme of study, using a range of data sources and appropriate research methods. Your research will be supported through introductory lectures followed with workshops for group work and practical activities. You will be allocated a supervisor who will meet with you over the research period. Online materials will also be available to guide and support independent study.
Additional Information:
There are three different optional formats for the dissertation-

A dissertation which is ‘fieldwork’ based: in this type of dissertation a research question is formulated and investigated using ‘field’ data. Field data is usually obtained through the use of research methods such as questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, observations and so forth. This type of dissertation utilises library sources as well.

A dissertation which is ‘library’ based: in this type of dissertation a research question is formulated and investigated using library based source material rather than ‘field’ data. This type of dissertation tends to be more theoretical or philosophical in tone.

Two extended essays plus an accompanying rationale. Each essay requires the formulation of a research question which is investigated using library based source material rather than ‘field’ data. A rationale should justify the choice of topic(s), explain how the topics/essays are linked, and explain how the sources were selected and evaluated (methodology).
