Aims
This module aims to ensure students:
• Develop a systematic understanding of the literature relevant to the object of study
• Critically evaluate the theoretical literature with respect to its relevance to the object of study
• Explore the methodological and ethical underpinnings to the object of study
Learning Outcomes

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
The module will allow students to choose and develop a research topic which, subject to the feasibility of the research proposal, will be developed by the student. This will encompass a literature review, a theoretical framework, and a critical consideration of research ethics, methodology and research methods. This activity will be done in conjunction with an allocated dissertation supervisor who will see the student for a total of 8 hours across the first semester. These meetings will be augmented by a total of 6 lectures and 5 workshops.

The module is concerned with ensuring students lay down a firm foundation in terms of literature review, theoretical framework and research ethics for the Dissertation - Part 2 module that students will undertake in Semester 2. This module provides the foundation on which students will build and work towards completing their dissertation.
