Aims

Provide an opportunity to complete a substantial piece of design work in a supervised environment that is particular interest to the student. Students will be expected to demonstrate the application of knowledge and skill gained throughout the duration of their programme.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Demonstrate independent creative thinking and judgement in the pursuit of solutions to complex design problems
2.
Analytically apply design skills and techniques to produce design solutions to professional, highly creative standards
3.
Follow a recognised design process from a design brief/specification and develop a design solution from a range of ideas.
4.
Communicate a design to an audience and answer questions about the work.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:This is a self-determined project-based module to allow students the opportunity to demonstrate their design-thinking and design-craft skills. It builds on knowledge gained from the L6 Semester 1 module: Major Project Research Report. The module consists of a major design project proposed by the student and validated by staff. The student, with tutorial guidance, will determine the nature and direction of the design project once they have undertaken a period of initial research (in module 6162PDE) and generated a series of design propositions based upon it. The module involves a series of seminars and workshops, which focus on the delivery of the project solution propositions. Guidance is given on appropriate philosophies of approach, theory, methodologies and techniques.
Module Overview:
This module provides an opportunity to complete a substantial piece of design work in a supervised environment that is of particular interest to you. You will demonstrate the application of knowledge and skill gained throughout the duration of the programme.
Additional Information:Students will be required to display their work in an official location as defined by the programme team and in a format according to the module documentation provided. An official oral examination (viva) in the same location will be done at a pre-arranged time and date. At the time of the oral examination, students will be required to confirm to the examination panel that the work which has been submitted, and which is on display, is entirely their own except for where acknowledgements or citations have been provided.
