Aims
1.1 To introduce the student to the important principles that govern evidence, namely that of relevance, admissibility weight, and exclusion.
1.2 To introduce the student to the various categories of evidence, the trial process and basic criminal procedure.
1.3 To develop and harness the knowledge of the student so that they are able to demonstrate which type of evidence is applicable by source.
1.4 To develop a proper awareness and understanding of the applicable rules of evidence and be able to enunciate the underlying principles and policies.
1.5 To encourage the student to demonstrate an ability to use relevant legal material and present an argument which is both coherent and comprehensible.
Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate a firm grounding of the basic concepts, principles and rules of the
English law of evidence.
2.
Demonstrate an critical awareness of the impact of European Convention
jurisprudence on the English law of evidence.
3.
Demonstrate a well-developed ability to use a wide range of standard and legal
and other electronic sources of information.
4.
Demonstrate the ability to produce a critical overview of relevant evidential and
policy issues.
5.
Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate academic arguments in the light of
legislation and judicial decisions.
