Aims

Critically analyse the notion of complex care in adult nursing

Critically examine how complex care is located in a broader system of healthcare deliver

Critically examine how nurses manage the care of adult patients with complex needs as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
Consolidating knowledge regarding the below in relation to the adult field whilst considering complexities of providing mental, cognitive, behavioural and physical care services across a wide range of integrated care settings (NMC 7.6);
Consolidating knowledge regarding the below in relation to the adult field whilst considering complexities of providing mental, cognitive, behavioural and physical care services across a wide range of integrated care settings (NMC 7.6);
- Serious Case reviews (NMC 1.3, 6.8)
- Complex health needs (NMC 7.7)
- Transitional care: Teenager to other setting (NMC 3.16, 5.11, 7.10)
- Tertiary to secondary care (NMC 3.16, 5.11, 7.10)
- Interprofessional working within complex cases (NMC 5.11)
- The role of registered nurses and other health and care professionals at different levels of experience and seniority when managing and prioritising actions and care in the event of a major incident. (NMC 6.12)
- Risk assessment and management in relation to complex care (NMC 6.3, 6.5, 6.6, 6.10, 7.11
- Finance, safe staffing and business cases in complex care(NMC 6.2, 7.12
- Political awareness, quality of care, cost effectiveness in relation to patient safety in complex care (NMC 7.13)
- The role of the nurse in incident reporting (NMC 6.8)
- Discharge and safeguarding in complex care (NMC 3.9, 3.16, 4.18, 7.10)
Module Overview:
This module will prepare you for the management of the care of adult patients with complex needs. In addition to the contact hours above there are 160 private study hours. 85 hours are guided, this includes online and assessment preparation.
